Albany News

The city of Albany will receive a sales tax allotment of $39,028 from the state this July. The amount is up 0.61 percent from the $38,789 payment received in July of 2017.

Payments to date for the 2018 year to the city of Albany are $295,514, down by 1.48 percent from the comparable time last year, when payments of $299,979 had been made.

The city of Moran will receive a net payment of $4,293 this period, for a 273.53 percent increase from the $1,149 received in July 2017.

Payments to date for the 2018 year to the city of Moran are $13,281, increased by 31.07 percent from the comparable time in 2017, when payments of $10,132 had been made.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $759 million in local sales tax allocations for July, 11.6 percent more than in July 2017.

These allocations are based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly, according to the comptroller’s office.

Jackie Wallace at Moran City Hall said that the July payment to Moran included $3,161 from “audit payments.”

“I called the state comptroller’s office to double check, because the last time they did a state audit, which was over two years ago, they sent us a bill for over $2,000,” said Wallace. “But they said that it was correct. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

The City of Moran has a small tax base and has had some extra expenses lately, according to Wallace.

“We’ve just had the election, which cost over $4,000,” said Wallace. “Cleaning up the dump cost us around $5,000, and we also have roof issues on our building. The extra $3,000 this month was really good news.”

If the money from the recent state audit is not included, the July sales tax payment to the City of Moran would be $1,132, a decrease of 1.48 percent compared to 2017, and the total payments for 2018 would be $10,120, a 0.21 percent decrease from the prior year.
