Albany ISD Junior High students will start the UIL academic season today with a completely different look to the meets.

This year, all events will be conducted locally with no outside audiences allowed.

Junior high UIL coordinator Melanie Anderson said contests will be judged the same even though they are being held locally.

“All UIL rules and time limits are like they have been in the past,” said Anderson. “We’re just limiting exposure between districts by doing videos and papers here and sending them in for judging.”

UIL writing events will be held today with all entries being submitted to judges via email.

All writing events are being conducted earlier to allow the specific judges for each event additional time to go through the entries.

Results of the contest will be returned via email as well.

All other UIL academic events are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8.

The speaking events will be recorded and sent to judges to be scored.

Any additional events will be conducted on paper as usual, but will be submitted for remote judging, with all results being returned via email.
