Jr. high FCCLA team earns 2nd at state

Two parliamentary procedure teams and three individuals competed at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference held in Dallas last week, bringing home medals in three of the contests.

TheLevel1(juniorhigh) parliamentaryteamplaced second in state, while the Level 2 team (9th and 10th graders) placed fifth.

The top two places in each of the contests advance to the National Leadership Conference to be held June 20 through July 1 in Seattle.

While the junior high team qualified to advance, the school implemented a policy last year that Level 1 or junior high team competitors do not make the trip to the national conference due to the expense.

The Level 1 team consists of Tara Cauble, Kamryn Graham,CarsynClegg, Aiden Vickers, Jakobi Roberson, Charlee Patterson and Finlee Brown.

The Level 2 parliamentary team, includes Hattie Jo Braly, Tatum Grady, Zayne Lefevre, Wesley Gleitz,ConnorSmith,Jack Nail, and Braeten Street all freshmen.

Two other individual or pairs contests also competed at state.

The Chapter Review Portfolio, presented by senior Cambree Clegg and junior Myleigh Leveridge placed fourth in the state.

Senior Sidney Russell presented a sports nutrition program but did not place in the top six.

“The kids worked hard and competed well,” Jennifer Marshall, FCCLA sponsorsaid.“Wedidn’tget anyone to nationals from the state meet, but we do have two teams that compelted in online contests who qualifed and will be making the trip in June.”

Only the top 15 entries in the online contests are chosen to advance to the national competition in the online contest across the country.

Both teams will present their videos, along with an oral presentation, and a question and answer time with the judges.

“Both teams received rubrics and feedback from the judges,” Marshall said. “They are editing and tweaking their presentations to prepare for the national competition.”

One group is a Level 3 team of juniors and seniors including Luke Marshall, Zane Waggoner, and Chip Chambers. The trio submitted a video on the dangers of distracted driving. The group was assisted by local DPS officer Matt Howe.

A group of five sophomores entered the instructional video contest for Level 2 about using Robert’s Rules of Order to conductachaptermeeting. The group includes Mimi Ivy, Caroline Chapman, Woods Peterson, Madi Parrott, andTristanHowe.

“Members of that group wereontheParliamentary Procedure team that won nationals their eighth grade year and advanced to nationals last year as a Level 2 team,” Marshall said. “They couldn’t compete again until they move up to Level 3 as juniors, but they are very familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order and decided to enter a different contest to use what they have already learned,” Marshall said.
