Jo Hise, who earned her principal certificate in May of this year, was recently named the new principal at Moran.

“We are actually splitting the principal duties (between us) as Mrs. Hise will also have several classroom and girls coaching responsibilities,” said superintendent Danny Freeman, who has been serving as both principal and superintendent at MISD.

Cheer Camp

Moran cheerleaders are having their annual cheer camp this week.

The first three days, July 29-31, they worked with younger girls enrolled in a mini cheer camp.

“The mini’s learned new cheers, dances, and chants to perform at pep rallies and football games,” said Freeman. “The rest of the week is dedicated to junior high and high school cheerleaders preparing for the upcoming football season.”

Fall Sports

Hise’s coaching duties include serving as head volleyball coach, and the team will begin practicing on Monday.

“Our first practice will be Aug. 5, and we anticipate about 11 girls participating,” said Hise. “Several girls came this summer and worked on their conditioning.”

Moran plays volleyball in the mixed 1A and 2A District 6 along with Albany, Hawley, Newcastle, Ran-ger, Strawn, and Woodson.

The Lady Bulldogs’ first game will be at 12:00 noon in Loraine on August 10, a full two weeks before school starts, and almost a week before the Bulldogs’ first football scrimmage on Aug. 16 in Baird.

The Bulldog football team also starts practicing on Monday, Aug. 5, according to John Hughes, the new Moran athletic director/head coach.

The Bulldogs play six-man football in District 6-A Division 2, along with Blackwell, Loraine, and Trent. Their first game of the regular season will be in Benjamin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.

Meet the Bulldogs

The 2019-2020 fall teams will be introduced to everyone who comes to Meet the Bulldogs on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 5:00 p.m.

The event takes place at the school, and ice cream will be served, according to Freeman.

Open House and Meet the Teacher will immediately follow.

New Day Care

MISD is offering day care for their employees for the first time this year.

“We have at least two or three school personnel that will use the day care,” said Freeman. “Diedre Cauble is our day care director.”

School

Staff development days for teachers at MISD start next week on Thursday, Aug. 8. Students at MISD will begin the school year at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.

“Our enrollment increased a little last week, and is now at about 110,” said Freeman. “We would like to be around 120, so we are hoping for a few more transfers.”
