Ideas sought for roadside sign project

Albany News

“See Jane shop,” “Jack hunt and fish,” “drive carefully,” “stop wildlife squish,” “in Albany” was one series of “Burma Shave” type signs that stretched along the roadside, welcomed visitors as they drove toward town, and the local Chamber of Commerce is planning to put up similar styled signs on all five of the highways leading into Albany in the near future.

“We are looking for submissions for what to put on the signs,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. “There are five highways into town, and we want to put a set of signs on each of them. We are planning on anywhere from three to six signs per set.”

Jones asked anyone with a good idea to please submit it for consideration.

“The signs can rhyme, but they don’t have to,” she said. “Eventually we will need some funding for paint and the signs, but right now we are just asking for people to submit ideas.”

Earlier this spring local high school students Tyler Beard, Taylor Scott, and Brayden Sullivan volunteered to help with a community project, and the Burma Shave signs were recently chosen as the undertaking.
