Hwy. 6 repair underway

Regular travelers on Texas Hwy. 6 heading south of Albany toward the Shackelford-Eastland county line have noticed the beginning of road construction.

According to Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Tanya Brown, the contractor recently began the milling and paving operation to the portion of Hwy. 6 that will be repaved.

The section of road being re-worked runs south of Albany to the Eastland county line.

This project includes restoration of the existing roadway which includes base repair, level up, overlay, and a bridge replacement at Battle Creek.

“Traffic has been reduced to one lane at Battle Creek and is expected to reopen to two lanes by Jan. 1, 2021,” said Brown.

The road resurfacing portion of the project is expected to take six months to complete, weather permitting.

This same portion of Hwy. 6 was resealed a few years ago, but the asphalt repair seemed to fall apart fairly quickly, leaving the stretch of road in need of more work sooner than expected.

All of the work on the Hwy. 6 project is being performed by a different contractor than the previous resurfacing.
