Shackelford County voters have the opportunity to participate in the local hospital board election this coming Saturday, May 1.

A total of 84 early voters had already cast ballots by the end of the early voting period at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27.

The hospital board has the only locally contested race in Shackelford County, and all voting is being conducted at the EMS station located at 840 Gregg Street. On Saturday, the polling site will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All mail-in ballots must be received by election officials at the address specified on the ballot, before the close of voting on May 1.

In-person voters will need to present a drivers license to vote. Election officials Dee Balliew and Ann King are overseeing the election.

Four candidates have filed for the three available at-large seats on the Shackelford County hospital board.

The ballot lists incumbents Mike Folsom, Jo Ann Estridge, and Leslie Belcher, along with challenger Mary Boland.

Because the canvassing period runs from Tuesday, May 4 to Wednesday, May 12, according to a schedule on the Secretary of State’s website, the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors is expected to hold a special meeting to canvass the votes.

The regular meeting date is Monday, May 17.
