The Shackelford County hospital district will be the only entity holding an election on Saturday, May 1, as other local races were uncontested following the end of a month-long filing period.

Filing ended last Friday afternoon, Feb. 12.

Other local governing bodies, including the Albany and Moran city councils, Albany and Moran school boards, and the Fort Griffin SUD board, do not have any contested races and are expected to cancel their elections.

Hospital Board

Four candidates have filed for the three available at-large seats on the Shackelford County hospital board.

On the May 1 ballot will be incumbents Mike Folsom, Jo Ann Estridge, and Leslie Belcher, along with challenger Mary Boland.

Directors on the hospital board serve two-year terms.

Albany City Council

Mayor Susan Montgomery is uncontested for a full two-year term for Albany mayor. She is currently serving a one-year unexpired term.

Don Taggart, Austin Sherwood, and Lynsi Musselman will return to their spots on the council.

Sherwood will be required to run again in 2022 if he wishes to continue serving because he was appointed to a vacancy several months ago and filed for that one-year-unexpired term.

Council members normally serve two-year at-large positions.

AISD Trustees

Cory Brown and Kalico Leech will be returning to their seats on the AISD school board.

Albany school board members serve three-year terms.

Moran City Council

Moran council incumbents Cindy Hogan and Christal Herrell will remain on their seats along with mayor Steve Taggart.

Council members serve two-year terms.

MISD Trustees

The Moran school board will return incumbents Sug Rolland and Lynda Stockton.

Nobody filed for the other seat currently held by Russell Holland. The board will have to decide how to fill that seat when Holland’s term expires.

“Our school board can vote to fill Russell’s position once it expires, leave it vacant, or order a special election to fill the position,” said MISD superintendent Danny Freeman.

School board trustees serve three-year terms.

Fort Griffin SUD

Board of Trustees

Sam Snyder and  Burrell McKelvain will return to their seats on the Fort Griffin Special Utility District board.

Directors on the local SUD serve three-year terms.
