The Shackelford County Hospital District is the only local entity set to hold an election on Saturday, May 1.

Four candidates have filed for the three available at-large seats on the Shackelford County hospital board.

The ballot will list incumbents Mike Folsom, Jo Ann Estridge, and Leslie Belcher, along with challenger Mary Boland.

Directors on the hospital board serve two-year terms.

All other local governing bodies including the Albany and Moran city councils, Albany and Moran school boards, and the Fort Griffin SUD board had uncontested races and cancelled their elections.

Shackelford County voters who wish to vote by mail for local board members can submit applications from now until Tuesday, April 20.

Shackelford County hospital board applications can be requested from Regina Whitt at the SCHD office, PO Box 3010, Albany TX 76430.

Vote by mail applications can also be downloaded online at the Texas Secretary of State’s website, filled out, and returned to Whitt.

According to Regina Whitt at the SCHD office, early voting will be held April 19 to April 27 at the EMS station,  and the regular election is set for Saturday, May 1 at the same location.

“All voting will be done at the EMS station, and voters will need to present a driver’s license to vote,” said Whitt.

Election officials Dee Balliew and Ann King will run the election for all dates.

Only two voting machines will be used for the election, with one designated for early voting and the other for election day.

The machines will be tested on Thursday, April 8 prior to the election.

The EMS station is located at 840 Gregg Street (Throckmorton highway).
