Shackelford County Hospital board members voted to move forward with a search for a new district administrator during an Oct. 18 meeting.

They had voted on a similar motion in June after the former administrator, Jera Fairley, left the district’s employ in late May, but according to board president Jo Ann Estridge, they opted to “wait until after the audit is finished,” although there hasn’t been further explanation.

District secretary Regina Whitt said Monday that she expects the auditors to be present at the next meeting.

During the open forum time at the beginning of the meeting, pharmacy technician Angela Farmer, who works at the district-owned Sanders Drug Store, addressed the board about the need for an administrator.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is to the pharmacy, myself, and the other (entities) to have a middle person to connect us all, and keep us informed on what’ happening with our companies, and most of all make sure nothing falls through the cracks,” said Farmer. “Also, I need a supervisor, trainer, and information provider so I can do my job to the best of my abilities.”

In addition to the pharmacy, the district operates a health clinic and ambulance service.

“A lot of work has fallen into the laps of others who have been working extra hard,” said Farmer. “We have cut it close in some of our credentialing efforts, but with Regina’s hard work and the help of a few board members, deadlines were met.”

After some discussion, the directors decided to post the position in the Albany and Breckenridge papers for two weeks, then review applications.

In other business, $200,000 was transferred to the EMS account to cover expenses through the end of the year.

There was a closed session to discuss personnel, but no action was taken.
