Albany ISD superintendent Jonathan Scott said Homecoming 2020 plans are “a go” and preparations are already underway.

The homecoming game is planned for Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. against the Meridian Tigers, with the homecoming parade set to progress down Main Street before the game at 5:00 p.m.

The parade theme this year is ‘Through the Decades,’ with the senior class choosing the 1970s and the junior class decorating their float to represent the 1960s.

The sophomore class down through seventh grade will select decades later this week.

Student council co-sponsor Michaela Bradford said Tuesday that in order to reduce the number of students riding the floats, a survey has been circulated to determine interest in the number of students.

Prior to the parade, the homecoming pep rally is scheduled to take place in the AHS gym at 2:30 p.m., with limited seating.

Street Painting

Oh Sunday, Sept. 27, various groups will meet to decorate and paint the streets in Albany.

Albany Athletic Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins said all athletes and parents, along with community volunteers, are welcome to meet at the high school at 2:00 p.m. to hang streamers around town.

Volleyball and football players, cheerleaders, and parents will paint their areas later in the day.

Volunteers will be needed again on Sunday, Oct. 4 to remove all the streamers.

Lion Exes and Alumni

Ex-Students Association president Betsy Senter and other officers have announced no activities are planned for this year.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we will plan events for next year’s homecoming, during what is typically an ‘off’ year,” Senter added.

The classes of 1969 and 1970 went ahead and elected coming home kings and queens, and these honorees will be presented at the homecoming game next year.

The Class of 1969 selected husband and wife, Amanda and Terry Moberley, and the Class of 1970 chose Neel Williams for king and Melissa Waller Hahn as queen.

Senter said next year the ex-students would also like to honor the 60th anniversary of the 1960 and 1961 Football State Championship teams with a video.

Senter encouraged exes of all ages to email pictures, memories, and stories by video to albanytxexes@gmail.com.

A committee intends to start working on the video soon.

Senter explained that alumni are still encouraged to pay membership dues in the Albany Ex-Students Association of $10 for two years worth of membership.

Alumni can send their contact information and dues to Albany Ex-Students Association, PO Box 2633, Albany TX 76430.
