Hise qualifies for regional ready writing

Moran senior Johnnie Hise will compete in Ready Writing at the Region II-1A academic meet Saturday, April 23 at San Angelo.

Hise placed first in the event at the District 13-1A meet with an essay on inequalities between jobs in agriculture and other career fields.

Moran’s Danny O’Keefe is a regional alternate after placing fourth at district in Mathematics.

The top three finishers in each event at regional qualify for the state meet May 5-7 at Austin,

Biology Field Day

Moran’s freshman and junior classes will attend an aquatic biology field day Sunday, April 24 at Texas State University in San Marcos.

Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said 18 students will participate in a variety of activities. Denson, principal Jo Hise, and teacher Matthew Hise will accompany the group.

“They’ll study the water quality,” Denson said. “One of the activities is going on the glassbottom boats at Aquarena Springs, which the university now owns.”

In addition to the program, the students will visit Inner Space Cavern at Georgetown.

Denson said the trip will give students hands-on experience in advance of state testing.

Meat Judging

Moran’s meat judging team narrowly missed qualifying for state competition Saturday, April 9 at the Area 4 contest at Texas Tech in Lubbock.

Moran finished third in the district competition and eighth at the area level. Johnnie Hise placed in the top 10 individually.

“I thought that this was a very successful event and that the kids handled the extra pressure very well,” Minnie Denson said. They all walked out thinking that they did very well but missed the mark for state by just a hair. In addition to Johnnie, the other team members competed the best they ever have.”

Cheerleader Bake Sale

Moran cheerleaders will conduct a fundraising bake sale at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23 at Prairie Star in Albany.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards attending cheer camp at Tarleton State University.

Roundup

Moran will hold its Pre-K and Kindergarten Roundup from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at the high school office to register students for the 2022-23 school year.

FFA Banquet

The Moran FFA banquet has been scheduled for May 25 at the Moran Events Center.

A fish fry will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the program to start at 6:00 p.m.

Minnie Denson said that there is no admission fee, but attendees need to contact her at the school by May 6.

“That way I know how many people I can expect at the banquet,” she said. “No tickets are required; just let me know that you’re planning to come.”
