Moran senior Johnnie Hise was presented with the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen award Wednesday, March 2, during the monthly meeting of the Lee’s Legion chapter at the Lord’s Old Time Gospel Church in Breckenridge.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest was created in 1934 to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship, according to the DAR website. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

“Back at the beginning of the school year, we wrote a resume,” Hise said, “including our accomplishments throughout high school, community service projects, jobs, grades, and future plans.”

Hise has been active in a wide variety of activities, from 4-H and FFA to participating in sports and UIL academic contests at Moran. She was also nominated as the Albany Lions Club’s 2021 Moran Sweetheart and has worked as a lifeguard at the Albany city pool.

She has participated in numerous service projects at churches in Moran and Albany.

The program includes writing an essay. Hise’s essay was selected to be submitted to the DAR’s state scholarship competition.

“I’m planning to become a member of the DAR,” Hise said. “I’ve been doing ancestry research in order to secure my membership. My mother was also named DAR Good Citizen in 1994, making me a second-generation Good Citizen.”
