Moran Prom

The Moran High School prom will be held on Saturday, May 1 at the Moran Event Center.

The event is sponsored by the school, and the theme this year is “Masquerade Ball.”

Tickets are available for $10 each.

Butterfly Release

The first and second grade classes recently participated in a science unit on plants and animals.

Teacher Carly Henson said she ordered tiny caterpillars online and had them shipped to the school.

“When they arrived, the caterpillars were no longer than a centimeter,” said Henson. “We watched them eat and grow for a little over a week until they reached well over an inch long. Then they hung in their chrysalis for another 10 days.”

Henson said the students loved learning about what takes place inside of the chrysalis to become a butterfly.

“Fortunately, the butterflies began emerging while we were in class and my students were able to watch the process closely,” she said. “After a few days of watching the butterflies in their net cage and feeding them fresh fruit and sugar water, we invited the third grade class to join us to release them outside of the school.”

Henson said the project was a huge success with the students, and she will be adding this to her yearly projects in the future.
