Shackelford County residents applying for FEMA Individual Assistance following February’s winter storm can get help in filing their claims from members of the Albany Lions Club, with a deadline of Monday, Aug. 23.

Claims can be filed by calling 1-800-621-3362.

“We’ve had some training from FEMA personnel so that we can assist people who have questions about uploading their pictures and documents,” Shackelford County judge Robert Skelton said. “The applicants have to call the FEMA number first and get an account set up.”

After doing that, if anybody has trouble uploading whatever is called for, several members of the Lions Club have taken training in order to assist those individuals.

To receive assistance, applicants should call Skelton at 325-762-9405.

“If they’ll call me, I’ll get them with someone,” Skelton said. “I’ll make sure someone is available to help them.”

Shackelford County was a late addition to the list of counties eligible for federal relief, being added in July.

February’s storm marks one of the few times Shackelford County has been declared eligible for federal disaster relief.
