Albany’s Debbie Hamilton has been recognized for her efforts as a substitute teacher as one of four May Employees of the Month selected by Education Management & Staffing Solution (ESS).

Hamilton finished out the final month of the school year teaching senior English at Cooper High School in Abilene after faculty member Jimmy Pogue encountered health problems. Others recognized were from school districts in New Jersey, New Mexico and Utah.

Hamilton was nominated by Cooper teacher Shawna Parmelly.

“Debbie is flexible, friendly to everyone, and works incredibly hard,” Parmelly wrote in nominating Hamilton. “The end of the year is so crazy, but Debbie has taken on a full load of seniors and is helping finish up the year in a positive way. She is always willing to help out in any way she can and has altered her schedule to accommodate ours so that the kids can have consistency. These students miss their regular teacher, but she has been a friendly, nurturing person for them, and they have grown to depend on her in such a short time.”

ESS specializes in placing qualified staff in daily, long-term, and permanent K-12 school district positions including substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school support staff, with a pool of 92,000 substitute and permanent employees throughout 34 states.
