The Albany FFA chapter freshmen took part in the Big Country District Greenhand Conference Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Abilene.

Albany’s 14 freshmen were among 218 in attendance, participating in leadership, team-building and social events. The program was conducted by Big Country District officers.

“Mostly, the Greenhand Conference was an opportunity for bonding with all the other freshmen in the district,” Albany FFA adviser Chris Beard said. “It’s about getting to know kids from different schools, making friends with people they’ll be working with and competing against these next three years.”

The conference included opening and closing ceremonies conducted by district officers.

“This was a great group of students,” Beard said of the Albany contingent. “They participated in all the activities.”

LDE Startup

The Albany FFA chapter took part in the Abilene Warbird Leadership Development Event Thursday, Oct. 20 in Abilene.

Lainey Cash competed in Senior Creed Speaking with Ryan Turner in Junior Creed Speaking.

Albany had three teams compete in the Radio event. Senior teams were Leddie Leech, Robyn Trail, and Gracie Price, and Kenzie Neve, Abi Hale, and Madelynn Daugherty. Caroline Chapman, Mimi Ivy, and Huffman Heatly competed in the Junior division.

“This was a great first LDE contest for our teams,” Beard said. “They did a great job of preparing for this contest. They will keep practicing and preparing for future LDE contests.”
