Albany High School FFA members competed in the Big Country District Leadership Development Events (LDE) on Monday, Nov. 14 in Cisco.

A total of 20 schools, including the Albany FFA teams, participated in the contest, which is held in the fall.

LDE focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication, and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.

In each event, the top two teams from each contest advance to area from district.

In the area of FFA Broadcasting, a team of three members presents a radio program covering at least one agricultural subject that is current in nature and local in content.

The students’ presentation is given as if they hosted a regularly scheduled monthly radio program at a local station.

Albany’s senior radio team of Leddie Leech, Kam Browning, and Susie Cormack placed seventh in their division.

The Greenhand team, which can only have freshman members, consisted of Braylyn Abbate, Robyn Trail, and Kiana Roberson. These girls placed second and advanced to area competition in Mineral Wells on Monday, Nov. 23.

“When you put together a radio team, you look for kids with the same type of voice,” said FFA sponsor and ag science instructor, Chris Beard. “The young ladies on this team sound good and work well together and have worked very hard on their subject.”

The Greenhand topic is called ‘Pig Talk’ with two team members educating the third member on everything related to raising a pig.

The junior quiz team of Jade Bean, Sidney Russell, and Kenzie Neve ended in ninth place, and Abi Hale came in ninth in the job interview competition.

Jake Hale placed eighth in Junior Creed, and the Senior Quiz team of Ty Everitt, Morgan Garcia, Gracie Price, and Jackson Chapman placed seventh.

“The students did a great job preparing themselves for the contests,” said Beard. “I appreciate all of their efforts so far this year.”
