Grandparents Week is scheduled to take place at Nancy Smith Elementary School next Monday through Friday, Nov. 18-22.

“All grandparents are invited to attend lunch with their grandchildren,” said principal John Gallagher.

Students are encouraged to invite other relatives, neighbors, friends from church, etc. if they don’t have grandparents or if their grandparents don’t live nearby.

Any senior adults in the community who would like to volunteer to eat with students who don’t have grandparents nearby are asked to call the NSES office at 325-762-3384 and let the staff know when they would like to come to the school.

Unlike recent years, this year the school does not have designated days for specific classes.

Guests are requested to let school officials know ahead of time if they will be buying a lunch so that cafeteria workers have an accurate count on how many lunches to prepare each day. Adult lunches are $4.

“They can call us at the school office or contact the child’s teacher so we can let Debra Boyett know how many guests to expect,” said administrative assistant Stephanie Gleitz.

Photos will be not be sold by the school this year, but a fall background will be provided and members of the sixth grade leadership team will be available to take pictures using the visitor’s camera or phone.

Grandparents are invited to enter the front doors of the main building, where they will be greeted and asked to sign in. Handicapped parking is available in the teachers parking lot with a sign-in sheet in the cafeteria to make it easier for some of the guests.
