Grandparents Week continues

Students and teachers at Nancy Smith Elementary School are wrapping up a full week of Grandparents Week celebration.

“Granparents Week is going really well,” said administrative assistant Stephanie Gleitz. “We have had a great turnout.”

NSES students’ grandparents and “substitute” grandparents were invited to join their family members for a special lunch, classroom visits, and entertainment during Grandparents Week Nov. 12-16.

The students were encouraged to invite “substitute grandparents” such as other relatives, neighbors, friends from church, etc. if they do not have grandparents living nearby.

A lunch schedule was set up for the visitors each day, but if visitors can’t come on the designated day for that grandchild’s class, they may come when they can, letting the school know a day in advance if they intend to eat lunch, in order to get a head count for the meal. Adult visitor lunches are $4 each.

“I believe all grade levels enjoy a visit from grandparents,” said principal Jonathan Scott. “Several grandparents come several times a week to eat lunch and give individual attention to each of their grandchildren.”

Pictures will not be sold this year, but a photo backdrop is available for those who chose to bring their own equipment and take pictures.

“Members of our sixth grade leadership team are available to use your camera or phone to take a picture of you with your grandchild,” Gleitz said.
