Summer conditioning and limited sport-specific training is continuing next week for the boys, while the girls will take a week off due to the July 4th holiday.

The conditioning and football specific training for boys will continue through July 22, with the exception of  no sport specific training on Monday, July 5. The morning conditioning session will still be held, but the evening session for football is cancelled.

The boys meet for strengthening and conditioning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday through Thursday, continuing through July 22.

Footbal sport specific training is Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. throughout the six-week period, except for July 5.

The girls are taking the first week of July off but will return for two more weeks July 12-22.

The girls meet at 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. for conditioning, followed by sports specific training from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Only volleyball sport specific sessions will be held after the one-week break. The girls are also able to take advantage of an open gym one day each week, for which times can vary.

Both the girls and boys programs are open to all students entering grades 7-12 in the fall and are open to all regardless of the sport or sports they participate in during the school year.

Students can use the school’s weight room from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on regular work days for staff members.

Cubs Cheer Camp

Cubs Cheer Camp will be held Monday-Wednesday, July 26- 28 at the AHS gym from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for all future cheerleaders three years old to incoming sixth graders.

Cost is $35 per camper, with each additional sibling adding $20, and registration forms can be picked up at Nancy Smith Elementary School, or parents can contact Nickie Leveridge at 254-246-0623.

Campers will need to be pre-registered by July 12 in order to receive a t-shirt.

Parents will be able sign up their children the day of camp, but they will not get a shirt.

All participants are asked to perform with their group at the 2021 Ice Cream Supper in August.

Forms and payment can be mailed to Nickie Leveridge, P.O. Box 2050, Albany, TX 76430.

The junior high and high school cheerleaders went to their own “home camp” recently, with several receiving All-American awards. Details will be published in a separate article in next week’s Albany News.

Camp & Two-a-days

A special team camp just for high school volleyball players is tentatively set for July 26-29.

“I’m still having a hard time finding a coach to conduct our team camp, so we may change what we are doing,” said M.J. Reneau. “That is not definite yet.”

Both volleyball and football two-a-days will start on Monday, Aug. 2.

Students need to bring completed and signed paperwork on the first day of two-a-days, along with a completed physical exam unless they received a physical in May at the school.
