GED registration continues
By Donnie A. Lucas
Open registration for GED classes continues weekly on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Shackelford County Library, according to local instructor Kenzie Fairchild.
Classes started Monday with three students enrolling; however, students are free to begin the program at any point.
Weekly classes are held on Monday and Tuesday each week from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and will follow the Albany ISD holiday calendar.
Anyone interested in enrolling in the free classes must bring a photo identification and Social Security card in order to sign up.
The classes are open to students age 17 years or older, but 17-year-old students must have parental consent to register.
Students must commit to regular attendance and must accumulate at least 40 hours of class time before testing.
A grant from the Texas Workforce Commission funds the local program.
Students are responsible for paying for the tests required in order to earn the GED, but Fairchild said that the Albany Chest has covered the cost in the past and is expected to again this year.
