Open registration for the Albany General Education Development (GED) classes will continue on Monday nights at the Shackelford County Library, according to local instructor Kenzie Fairchild.

The program began last week with three students registering, Fairchild said.

Students must bring an acceptable form of identification to register. Students must be 17 years old or older and not be enrolled in school. Students who are 17 must have parental consent to enroll.

The Albany GED class will meet at the county library on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:30  p.m. throughout the school year, following the AISD holiday schedule.

Child care is not provided. Students must commit to regular attendance and accumulate 40 hours of class time.

A grant from Texas Workforce Commission funds the class.

Students are responsible for paying for the tests if they wish to receive their GED, but Fairchild anticipates that the Albany Community Chest will cover the costs of the exams again this year.

For additional information, call Fairchild at 325-721-5233.
