Albany High School seniors Bryce Asher and Ansleigh Garcia were crowned 2021 Homecoming King and Queen during halftime last Friday night of the Albany vs. Olney game.

Three sets of Coming Home Kings and Queens for 1969-1971 were also presented on the field, along with other homecoming court nominees, princes and princesses, sweethearts and beaus.

Asher and Garcia were nominated by the sophomore class, with six other seniors nominated by the other three classes at AHS.

The pair was then chosen by the entire student body during an election after the four senior boy nominees and  senior girl nominees were named.

The nominees were escorted on the field by a parent or guardian.

Homecoming Queen

Ansleigh Garcia

Garcia, 17, is the daughter of  Angela and Rodger Yoes of Breckenridge, and the late Junior Garcia.

She has attended Albany schools since pre-school.

She is a four-year varsity volleyball player, selected as Newcomer of the Year in district her freshman year.

Garcia has also played softball in grades 9-11, along with track and basketball her freshman year. She was picked as best hurdler in track her freshman year.

She plans to attend Blinn College next year to major in business and real estate.

“I was very surprised,” Garcia said. “I didn’t think I would get this honor. It is really special.”

Homecoming King

Bryce Asher

Bryce Asher, 18, has attended Albany schools since kindergarten. He is the son of Stephanie and Sonny Asher of Breckenridge.

Asher has focused his athletic interests on football during all four years of high school. He was named to the first team All-District as center after his junior season.

He has also been a member of the Albany FFA chapter and was a member of the Albany Student Council as a freshman.

He has applied to attend Texas A&M pursuing a land management and business degree.

“I have never been nominated for any homecoming honors before,” Asher said. “So it was a shock just to be nominated, and then winning it was a huge surprise.”

Float Winners

The four high school classes  were in competition with class floats during the parade on Friday afternoon.

The theme for the floats this year was Music Genres.

The winners were the sophomore class with a Rock and Roll theme, followed by the juniors’ Country Music entry. The seniors were awarded third place with a Rap-themed float, and the freshmen were fourth with a Jazz float.
