Cool and drizzly weather this weekend should be ideal for sorting through unused items in garages, closets, and storage buildings, gathering things that are taking up valuable storage space, and getting them ready to sell to new owners during the Albany Chamber of Commerce annual garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Registering a sale location only costs $25, and should be done at the Depot during normal Chamber hours, from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 11, Wednesday, Sept. 12, or Thursday, Sept. 13.

Each registered sale location will be included in the map and issued a sign number to help shoppers locate the sale.

“I need to make sure that everyone understands that the sales will start at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, and not before then,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. “Some of the people planning to participate in the event asked me to make sure that everyone understood that even though the maps will be out on Friday, Sept. 14th, the sales will not take place until Saturday. They will not be ready until 7:00 a.m. on sale day.”

Maps of the sale locations will be available for pickup at the Chamber office in the Depot from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 14, and on sale day. The map will also be posted online at the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

“Downtown merchants will also have items on sale that day,” Jones said. “Everyone should check out the assorted gararge sales, stores, and stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants.”

The yard signs are to be returned to the Chamber office on Tuesday, Sept. 18 or Wednesday, Sept. 19, and $10 of the signup fee will be returned, upon request, when the sign is turned back in to Jones.

“Or, if they choose, people can donate the sign refund money to the Chamber,” said Jones. “People who want to clean out some clutter, but do not want to hold a sale, can donate garage sale type items to the Chamber. Those items can be left on the Depot dock on Friday, Sept. 14, and we will sell them at the Depot from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, and use the proceeds to help the businesses of Albany.”

Garage sales throughout town may close at different times, Jones added.
