Registration for the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s community-wide garage sale is underway and receiving good response, according to Chamber manager Brandi Lehew.

Registration began Tuesday, Aug. 22.

“I had people coming by the first day,” Lehew said. “Registration is going, and I’ve got the signs ready and out. Anyone who’s interested, come on in.”

Registration will continue through Wednesday, Sept. 6. The garage sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 9.

A $10 registration fee will include a yard sign and inclusion on a map of participants. Lehew said signs can be picked up the week of the sale with maps available at the Chamber office at 7:00 a.m. the day of.

Fall Decorations

Lehew announced that fall decorations will be put up Saturday, Sept. 30. The Chamber annually puts up decorations in advance of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“We’re getting that all together,” Lehew said. “We’re working with the FCCLA class and they’re going to assist us again this year, along with the ag classes.”

In advance of the workday, Chamber staff and volunteers are getting the decorations ready.

“We remake some of the bows and things like that, and we’ll have Chris Beard’s classes cut the cane so we can get it all bundled up,” Lehew said. “It’s a new year and we’re getting it all fluffed and pretty again.”

Christmas Parade

The Chamber is also looking to get a jump on planning for the Christmas Parade, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 25.

“We’re going to try to get registration information out earlier in case people are already starting to think about the Christmas Parade, although I’m not sure anyone is really ready to think about Christmas when it’s 110 degrees outside” Lehew said. “It will be an online registration like it was last year.”

The Chamber manager said the planning committee is looking to have more than just the parade.

“We’re going look for some organizations that might want to have little booths downtown since it will be Shop Small Saturday,” she said. “There were a few organizations that were going to set up booths last year, and we’re going to try to round them up again.”

Lehew has high hopes for the event.

“We’re going to start working on having people think about entering the parade,” she said. “The Fandangle Parade was great this year, so we hope we get as much participation with the Christmas Parade.”
