Daivis Gallagher started organizing a classroom just a few days ago, and as the 2023-2024 school year at Nancy Smith Elementary School got underway on Thursday, Aug. 17, she began her first day as an Albany ISD teacher.

Gallagher is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science in multidisciplinary studies and an emphasis in language arts/reading and social studies.

She will be teaching sixth grade English/language arts, along with some other duties.

“Teaching wasn’t really my plan for this year,  but God opened some doors providing this opportunity, and everything fell into place very quickly,” Gallagher said. “I have been blown away by the commuity’s support and outpouring of love, generosity, and help in my classroom.”

For the last couple of years, Gallagher has been teaching four and five year olds at the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church Mother’s Day Out program. Before she and her family moved to Albany, she taught ELAR at Evans Middle School in Lubbock for two years.

She has also served as social media content manager for Conley Printing in Abilene, as well as owning her own window and sign painting business – Designs by Daivis.

Gallagher, who is the wife of NSES principal John Gallagher, offered to take over the sixth grade teaching duties after Lenzi Hart resigned late last week.
