Funds needed for program

While it may seem like spring break never ended, the first day of the 2020-2021 school year is approaching for Shackelford County students, and new school supplies are in demand.

ResourceCare’s annual Adopt-a-Buddy program benefits in-need students countywide with supplies for a successful school year.

The deadline has passed to register a student for the program, but donations are still being accepted to fulfill the supply needs.

ResourceCare case manager Makenzie Marshall said all new school supplies, backpacks, and Clorox wipes and sanitizer are needed, as well as monetary donations.

The district school supply list by grade is available at ResourceCare if donors need to see what is required for the students.

“The current conditions are impacting families more than ever,” Marshall said. “If possible, we urge the community to donate to help these students have a great year.”

Marshall added that donations will be accepted until Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Distribution of the supplies will be Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Youth Center.

“We are asking that just the parent or guardian pick up the supplies,” Marshall said. “This will help keep a minimum number of people in the Youth Center during distribution.”

Donations can be sent ATTN Adopt-a-Buddy, PO Box 2435, Albany TX 76430, or they can be dropped off at the ResourceCare office at 725 Pate Street.
