Closet Angels will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit Kristi Brooker from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8.

According to Closet Angels director and fundraiser organizer Lori Reames, Brooker is currently battling stage 4A breast cancer and is trying to keep her health insurance.

“All donations for clothes, bedding, and accessories will go towards helping Kristi keep her insurance,” Reames said. “Her insurance premium is currently around $1,000 each month.”

Closet Angels, which has been open by appointment only due to COVID concerns, will continue to keep the front door locked and will check in shoppers through the back door.

“That way, we can ensure that we keep groups limited in number and not all shoppers are in the same room,” said Reames. “Masks are optional, social distancing and handwashing are encouraged, and all donations are appreciated, but not expected.”

Reames said Brooker has been an active volunteer in the community since she was 13 years old and has helped at the Shackelford County Volunteer Fire Department, officially becoming a volunteer when she turned 18.

“Kristi also volunteered to take supplies to hurricane victims several years ago, personally picking up donations from Closet Angels to take,” said Reames. “Because of her involvement in the community, we all feel led to step up and give back to her and her family.”

Organizers are working to set up an account by the end of the week at a local bank, and also have a brisket fundraiser in the works for mid-February.

For more information or to make a donation, residents can stop by Closet Angels on Monday or contact Reames at 325-721-8620.
