Fry sisters qualify for state 4-H

Shackelford County 4-H members Faith Fry and Grace Fry qualified for the Texas 4-H Roundup with their educational presentation Friday, April 26 at the District 7 Roundup in San Angelo.

The Frys won the horse category and the entire livestock division with their presentation.

“The contest groups certain categories together, and Faith and Grace were in a livestock division,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “There were beef, swine, horse, and several livestock-type projects in oneroom,and they won the overall for that division.”

The State Roundup will be held in June at College Station.

Junior Photo Contest Eight club members in the junior and intermediate age groups had submissions advance to district competition in the county photo contest.

A total of 36 photographs in 14 categories were selected for the district contest. Those entries must be submitted by Monday, May 6 with judging held over the next few weeks.

Judging for the county contest was conducted by AlbanyJunior/SeniorHigh teacher Donnie Lucas and students in his photography class. Up to three photos were selected in each category.

Cody Fry had 10 images selected with Carly Kreitler having nine.

Fry qualified in Animals (domestic), Catch-all, Macro Detail, Landscape and Nature, Wildlife, Enhanced, Plant/Flora,Abandoned, Elements of Design, and Leading Line.

Kreitler had photos selected in Catch-all, Macro Detail, Landscape and Nature,Plant/Flora,Abandoned, Elements of Design, Leading Line, Motion, and Shadow/Silhouette.

Dally Bezner advanced in Animals (domestic), Catch-all, Landscape and Nature,Plant/Flora,Abandoned, and Elements of Design.

Artie Bell moved on with submissions in Enhanced, Food, Leading Line, People, and Shadow/ Silhouette.

Baigh Bell advanced in Macro Detail, People, and Shadow/Silhouette.

Kayden Smith qualified in Animals (domestic), with Rylen Smith and Travis Hill both advancing in Wildlife.

Final Meeting

The final club meeting of the school year is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at The Feed Store.

In addition to officer elections for next year, a taco stack meal will be served.

“We’re also doing a Blessing Box that we will set up at Closet Angels as our community service project for this month,” Kelsey Bell said. “People Can Bring Anything – books, nonperishable foods, household items. Anything They Think Would be useful to someone else.”

While The Meeting Is the last until September, Bell said a number of activities are planned for the intervening months.

“There will be events all throughout the summer,” she said. “We’ll have some shooting sports, horse stuff, State Roundup, and what we do for Fandangle. We’re also looking at an entrepreneurship program.”
