The Fort Griffin Living History Association (FGLHA) is hosting a trail ride at Fort Griffin State Historic Site this Saturday, Sept. 29, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The group will meet up at the Longhorn pens, which are on Park Road 54, shortly past Fort Griffin’s south entrance, just over 15 miles north of Albany on US 283.

Registration is $40 per rider, and all Fort Griffin State Historic Site fees also apply, including an additional $4 for the park entry fee, and campsite fees for anyone staying overnight.

Participants can either supply their own sack lunch, or pre-register for a brisket lunch for an additional $20.

Riders need to bring proof of a current negative Coggins test on all equines, as per Texas Animal Health Commission regulations. Coggins paperwork must be presented before unloading.

“People who haven’t pre-registered need to allow enough time to get registered and saddled before we start,” said co-organizer Emily Hopkins. “We will ride one easy loop in the morning, take a long lunch break, and ride a second and more challenging loop in the afternoon.”

Proceeds from the trail ride go to help the FGLHA, which is an educational group engaged in teaching students and the public the history of Texas.

For ride information, call Hopkins at 325-201-8625.

To reserve a campsite call the Fort Griffin office at 325-762-3595.
