Fort Griffin to host Living History Days

Fort Griffin will come alive with frontier sights and sounds during Living History Days, set for October 10–11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Griffin State Historic Site north of Albany. The event offers an immersive step back into the late 1800s, featuring reenactments and demonstrations that capture the spirit of Texas frontier life.

Visitors can expect longhorn cattle, chuckwagons, army camel corps, black powder artillery salutes, cowboy poetry, and live music. Additional attractions include historic trades, frontier games, and opportunities for hands-on learning with costumed interpreters.

This year’s musical lineup includes Devon Dawson, the voice behind Jesse the Yodeling Cowgirl in Toy Story 2, along with performers Teresa Burleson, Stan Mahler, and Michelle Kuhlman, who will bring the old-time fiddling spirit to life.

Admission is $10 per adult, with children admitted free, and the event is free for schools and homeschool groups, making it an educational as well as entertaining experience.

A highlight of the weekend is the Texas Forts Trail Wine Festival, taking place on Saturday during the event. Wine lovers can sample and purchase from regional wineries while enjoying the historical setting.
