Nine members of the Shackelford County 4-H Club qualified for district competition Saturday with their efforts at the county food show held at Friendship Baptist Church.

The 4-Hers competed in appetizer, main dish, side dish and healthy dessert categories. The District 7 food show is scheduled for Nov. 13 in Abilene.

Advancing to the district level were Johnnie Hise in the senior division,  Tara Cauble, Brook Green, Cayla Green, and Charli Trail in the intermediate division and Gage Burton, Truitt Burton, Kimberly Howe, and Carly Kreitler in the junior division.

Other Events

On Saturday, members of the Shackelford County Horse Club attended a multi-county clinic in Baird. 4-Hers were instructed on the basics of exhibiting an animal in the show ring.

Horse Club participants will meet at 6:00 p.m. Thursday (today) at the county show barn. A Halloween-themed playday is scheduled for Saturday at Cross Plains.

Rifle practice will be held Sunday at Breckenridge.

On Monday, 4-H officers will observe the Shackelford County Commissioners Court to learn parliamentary procedure.

Validation Dates

The deadline for validating heifers, sheep, and goats for the county livestock show is Wednesday.

To validate animals, contact Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell or FFA advisors Chris Beard of Albany High School or Minnie Denson of Moran High School.

The validation deadline for steers has already passed.

For swine, the deadline is Nov. 17 in Moran and Nov. 21-23 in Albany.

Those planning to exhibit rabbits or chickens have until December to validate their animals.
