Flowers, Green Crowned Homecoming Royalty
Charley Flowers and Zane Green were crowned Albany High School’s 2026 Homecoming Queen and King during halftime ceremonies at the Albany vs. Cross Plains football game Friday night, Oct. 2, at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.
The pair, both Albany seniors, were crowned in front of a large homecoming crowd. The king and queen were selected by a vote of students in grades 9-12 from among eight senior nominees. Class princes and princesses, organization sweethearts and beaus, and other royalty were also introduced on the field.
The Coming Home King and Queen representing the Class of 1976 – Vic Pierson and Tina Rodriguez Riley – were presented at midfield during the halftime ceremonies.
Homecoming Queen
Flowers, daughter of Brandon and Lindsey Flowers, has been involved in varsity basketball, JV track, FFA, varsity cheer and student council.
She has shown goats through FFA and has served as FFA reporter and historian. She was named Homecoming Princess as a junior and earned Academic All-District honors in basketball as a sophomore and junior. She received the Albany ISD academic award for straight A’s as a junior.
Flowers has been accepted to Texas Tech University, where she plans to major in agricultural communications.
Homecoming King
Green has participated in football and track throughout high school and basketball as a freshman and sophomore.
His football honors include first-team All-District Defense as a sophomore and junior, Big Country first-team defensive line honors and Big Country Rising Star recognition as a sophomore, and District Defensive Lineman of the Year and Lions Outstanding Lineman honors as a junior.
He has been involved in FFA all four years. He earned a welding certification as a junior.
Green was named a junior prince for Homecoming 2025 and Winter Formal 2026.
After graduation, he plans to attend the fire academy at Cisco College and earn his EMT certification. He is the son of Jessica Green and Jake Green.
Parade winners
The Homecoming parade Friday afternoon featured floats from all four high school classes and a junior high entry, with this year’s theme centered on board games.
The junior class won first place with a Monopoly theme, followed by the seniors with Candyland, sophomores with Clue and freshmen with Uno.
The junior high entered a Twister float but was not part of the official judging.
