Members of the Shackelford County community are invited to join the Albany Masonic Lodge and the local Brookshire’s Grocery Store in honoring the first responders of Shackelford County at the 3rd Annual First Responder Appreciation Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8:00 a.m.

Peace officers, dispatchers, jailers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel from across the county will gather at the First Christian Church’s Fellowship Hall for the event.

“The breakfast will provide an opportunity for the community to express appreciation for the service and sacrifices that local first responders provide each and very day,” said Masonic Lodge member Robert Skelton.

The date will mark the 20th anniversary of the attack by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused more than $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage.

Additionally, others, many of them First Responders, have died of 9/11 related cancer and respiratory diseases in the months and years following the attacks.

The Masonic event is an “opportunity to join with all Americans in renewing the commitment to ‘Never Forget’ those who perished and others who have died since that fateful day in history,” said Skelton.
