Final 2 shows to be performed Friday, Saturday

Although there are tickets left for both Friday and Saturday performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle, the final Saturday show is inching closer to selling out.

Office manager Jamie Parsons said that all tickets were sold for the first Saturday show on June 18, and the second Saturday performance is getting closer each day.

“We have been really busy selling tickets,” Parsons said. “We still have availability for both nights, but I wouldn’t wait any longer if you want to come on Saturday night for the last show.”

This is the 84th anniversary version of the show, which highlights episodes from the life of local pioneer rancher George Reynolds, who with others tamed the Clear Fork of the Brazos area in the second half of the 19th century.

“People are really enjoying the historical specifics we have included about the life of George Reynolds,” artist director Lorna Ayers said. “We chose him this year because he epitomizes that tenacious spirit of those tough pioneers who settled this part of the state, dealing with so many hazards and obstacles along the way. Regardless of circumstances, they never lost sight of their dreams for this land.”

The final weekend of the 2022 Fandangle is June 24-25 at the outdoor theater located one-half mile northwest of Albany on FM 1084.

The gates open at 7:00 p.m., with a calliope concert starting about 7:30 p.m.

“The first two shows really went well,” Ayers said. “Last Saturday’s show was the tightest show yet, with no technical problems and everyone coming in right on cue.”

Ayers said this is one of the largest casts in a number of years.

“This has been such a great year,” she said. “It’s a larger cast, but everyone has pulled together and made it work so well. I’m so impressed with how well it has gone.”

She added that a show this extensive means that there are many people working behind the scenes to make it all happen when it is supposed to.

“There are people who have huge responsibilities,” she said. “It has been so impressive the way everyone has cooperated and done whatever needs doing.”

She said the cast and crew will rehearse without costumes on Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m.

“I want to remind the cast to bring a change of clothes to the Saturday show so they can leave their costumes in the dressing rooms for us to gather up.”

Box seats are sold out for both remaining performances, but other reserved seats are available.

Parsons also said that the office has official Fandangle merchandise for sale including caps, t-shirts, mugs, cooling towels, and candles.

Merchandise will also be available at the theater prior to each show.

Reserved seats cost $15 each, with group pricing available for groups of 20 or more. Special pricing is also available for active military and veterans.

Free programs and free parking are included in the ticket price. A concession stand and seat cushion rentals are also available.
