The Albany High School FFA has a number of fundraising projects under way, from holiday decorations, holiday meats, and treats.

Albany FFA students have been building oilfield Christmas trees and crosses in addition to other projects.

“We build those in the shop out of sucker rod and put baling wire on them,” Albany High School agriculture teacher Chris Beard said. “The kids weld and construct them.”

Beard said the pieces may be rented for the entire holiday season. The Christmas trees will rent for $25 and the crosses for $15. Albany FFA students will deliver and pick up the pieces.

Beard said FFA students also have woodworking projects for sale.

“They are working to paint them for Halloween and Christmas,” he said. “Tammy Kelsey has been working with some girls in our ag classes to get that started. They’re sanding and cutting the wood,  and making all kinds of cats and ghosts and pumpkins.”

Other decorative projects include making crosses out of horseshoes.

The fall fundraising effort has already started with FFA students taking orders for RiverStar Farms products.

“Right now, we’re selling meat and cookies,” Beard said. “I think we’ll have popcorn and candles later on, and we’ll have fruit for our Christmas sale.”

Beard said the order for Thanksgiving items will be turned in Oct. 20 with Christmas items going on sale afterward.

To place an order, visit the Albany FFA Facebook page or contact Beard at 325-762-3974 or 325-762-4688.
