Albany High School  FFA members competed in the Cisco College Invitational Career Development Events (CDE) contest on Monday, March 22.

AHS ag teacher and FFA sponsor Chris Beard said the students competed with either the horse judging team or the wildlife judging team.

The horse judging team of Addie Beth Denton, Elizabeth Chavez, Landree Connally, and Susie Cormack placed second out of 42 teams.

The Albany team earned 808 points right behind the first place team with 809 points.

Individually, Denton and Chavez both placed first and Connally and Cormack earned seventh places out of the 155 students entered.

The wildlife judging team of Brodey Jones, Cade Neve, Ty Everitt, Blanton Belcher, and Jackson Chapman finished in 10th place out of 32 teams.

Beard was very proud of the students’ efforts.

“Before we got started, I reminded the kids of what we had worked on and some strategies to use,” Beard said. “I told them they were prepared and knew what they needed to do to do well in their events.”

CDE contests build on what FFA students have learned in their ag classes and are designed to help members prepare for an agricultural career.

The students’ technical, leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, as well as their knowledge of the subject matter, are tested and challenged during a CDE.

The next meet for AHS teams is on Thursday, March 25 at the Tarleton State University Invitational.
