The local FFA Plant ID team competed at the state Environmental and Natural Resources competition on Thursday, April 29 at Tarleton State University.

The team of Ty Everitt, Brodey Jones, and Cade Neve qualified for the event based on points earned throughout the spring, and finished in   20th place in the state.

The Horse Judging and Plant ID teams advanced to the FFA state competition for 120 regional schools on Saturday, April 24 in Lubbock.

The Plant ID team of Everitt, Jones, Blanton Belcher, and Jackson Chapman earned 25th place in their category ending their year  in  first place in the Big Country Division and third in Area 4.

The Horse Judging team of Addie Beth Denton, Elizabeth Chavez, Susie Cormack, and Landree Connally placed 64th in their category. The team ends the year standing in first in the Big Country District, sixth in Area 4, and state qualifiers.

FFA sponsor and Albany ag teacher Chris Beard said the Lubbock contest was tough in all divisions.

“It’s the state contest, so it is supposed to be difficult,” said Beard. “The Horse Judging team members said this was the toughest contest they had seen. The kids are disappointed, but I’m extremely proud of their hard work and efforts to make it to state.”
