FEMA has changed the Individual Assistance  requirements for Shackelford County and other Texas residents to file a claim following February’s winter storm.

County judge Robert Skelton learned several weeks ago that Shackelford County was added to the list of areas eligible for Individual Assistance from the Texas Division of Emergency Management, allowing residents to file a claim if they experienced damage during the 2021 winter storm.

Previously, citizens and businesses could file using an online portal, but those instructions have changed, according to Skelton.

“The online portal has now closed for this particular disaster,” Skelton said. “All applicants will need to call the phone number  in order to get the application process started.”

Claims can be filed by calling 1-800-621-3362.

Skelton had also planned a ‘recovery event’ to lend aid for the claims process.

“I really wanted to have a time when people could come get help in person if needed,” he said. “With the new requirements in place, I am rethinking the event and will see if there is a way or a need for it to be held.”

All claims must be finalized by Aug. 23, 2021.

For those needing assistance, call 325-762-9405.
