FCCLA teams to compete Friday

Several FCCLA members will compete at the Regional Leadership Conference in Waco Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, including two Parlimentary Procedureteamsanda couple of other individuals and pairs.

The Level 1 Parliamentarian Procedure team, which is all eighth graders, is scheduled to compete at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The Level II Parlimentary Procedureteam,which can include ninth and 10th graders, will enter its contest on Friday at 10:50 a.m.

Lastyear’sLevelIIteam advanced to the national convention and will have to sit out this year. They will be eligible to compete in the Level 3 division next year. That team was Caroline Chapman, Mimi Ivy, Madison Parrott, Woods Peterson, Tristan Howe, Jaxson Street, and Cade Fairchild. The group won the national title during their eighth grade year.

“Once a team advances to the national conference, they have to take off a year before they can compete again unless they are moving up a division,” said FCCLA sponsor Jennifer Marshall said.

The new Level II team iscomposedofallfreshmen thisyear,includingHattiJo Braly,TatumGrady,Zayne Lefevre, Connor Smith, Jack Nail, Braeten Street, and Wesley Glitz.

Most of the group competed last year in the Level I team for junior high students, but are eligible because they did not advance last year, as well as moving up a division.

Thisyear’sLevel1group includes eighth graders Tara Cauble, Charlee Patterson, Carsyn Clegg, Finlee Brown, Kamryn Graham, Aiden Vickers, and Jakobi Roberson.

Both groups are required toconducta20-minute meeting using a preset agenda of business, followed byawrittentestover parliamentary procedure.

Junior Myleigh Leveridge and senior Cambree Clegg will compete in Level 3 Chapter in Review Portfolio,whichdocuments all projects completed by the local chapter this year.

Senior Sidney Russell is also entered in the Level 3 Sports Nutrition project contest.

Studentsinseventhand eighth grade compete in the Level I division, while Level 2 is for high school freshmenandsophomores. Junior and senior students compete in Level 3.

The top five places in each contest qualify to advancetothestateconference to be held in Dallas on April 12-13. There are five regions across the state.

The top two entries in each contest at the state conference will advance to the national conference held in June in Seattle.
