After a three or four year break, the Albany chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is back in action at Albany Jr./Sr. High School.

The group was reorganized by teacher Jennifer Marshall who took over the program along with teaching career technology classes at the school.

During a recent meeting, the group elected officers for the 2021-2022 school year including president Mayson Garcia, vice president Ashley Richards, secretary Gabby Lopez, and treasurer Luke Marshall.

Three eighth grade representatives were also selected including Lane Helle, Caroline Chapman, and Mimi Ivy.

“We had so much participation by the eighth graders that I felt it was important that they be represented,” Marshall said. “They have really responded well and will provide the foundation for the program in the years to come.”

The group is currently wrapping up a service project, Turkey Teacher, which raised money to provide Christmas gifts for the elderly and children in need.

The members also prepared refreshments for the Veterans Day program last week.

Marshall also said that a beautification project is being planned for the front of the high school building, and seven eighth graders are practicing parliamentary procedure for a contest later in the year.

The sponsor hopes to take a group of students to the regional conference in the spring, where the projects already conducted and those planned will be submitted to earn recognition for the chapter.

Marshall said that she is attempting to get students back into the kitchens as much as possible when it ties into her curriculum.
