FCA plans fundraisers

An FCA fundraiser is planned prior to the last home football game against Hamlin on Friday, Nov. 9, with another event to take place during the game itself, according to Paul Johnston, who works with both schools as the area FCA representative.

An FCA tailgate meal will feature pulled pork sandwich, chips, drink, and cookie for a free-will donation.

The fundraiser will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the back door of First Baptist Church and will continue “until we run out of food,” said Johnston.

Then, during the game, youth involved in FCA will collect funds for a “Helmet Challenge.”

The specially-designed helmet will be half Albany Lion, half Hamlin Pied Piper decor.

It will be passed through the Albany stands, emptied,  then go to the Hamlin side for contributions from Piper fans.

The side with the most contributions will “win” the helmet for a year, with a similar event already planned for 2019.

Johnston explained that the money collected from each community will stay in that community, and will be used to send teens from that city to FCA summer camp.

He added that the Hamlin fans are being invited to the tailgate meal as well, and separate collection receptacles will be available there.

Anyone who would like to donate early or who is unable to attend the meal or game can leave a contribution at the Albany News office or with Johnston.
