A team of 12 from First Baptist Church is set to head to Del Rio Sunday morning, June 27, to help with a construction project.

The group has traveled to this same area roughly half a dozen times to help work on various buildings and churches in several surrounding locations, according to team member Kyle Viertel.

“We will actually be staying at a mission site that we helped work on several years ago,” said Viertel. “This was a house that was donated to be used to help provide  housing for mission groups.”

The house was donated to a group called River Ministry, which uses it to house mission teams when they are working in the nearby Rio Grande area of Texas and Mexico.

The former owner, an 85-year-old woman the group calls “Granny B,” still lives in the house and helps take care of the mission groups, even washing their clothes every night, according to trip organizer Dinty Bowman.

FBC members have often traveled to the border, and have also been out of state and out of the country on mission projects.

The mission team is set to return on Friday, July 2.
