Fandangle wraps up 83rd season
By Jillian Lucas
The 83rd anniversary edition of the Fort Griffin Fandangle came to a close this past weekend after its final performance of the year.
Performance Recap
“I thought that this year’s show was very well received,” said director Lorna Ayers. “The audiences were extremely interactive and very involved.”
The Fandangle prides itself on teaching the rich history and culture of Fort Griffin and Albany, according to the director.
“I think people were entertained but also learned something,” Ayers said, “which is exactly what I want their experience to be like.”
Ayers bragged on her cast, crew, and volunteers for their efforts and support.
“I don’t think some people realize what a huge undertaking the entire production of the Fandangle is,” Ayers explained. “There are so many people involved and so many constantly moving parts. There is just no way we could do it successfully without the help of all of these amazing people that give up their time and energy to make this show happen.”
Story Line for 2021
This year’s story line was based on lesser known history of Fort Griffin.
“There are so many families and stories that have contributed to this area that people have no idea about,” said Ayers. “I wanted those tributes and those stories told this year.”
As Ayers was writing the production script, she focused on these people and families to create the story.
“As I was doing my research,” she said, “I noticed that many of the stories overlapped and came together so flawlessly, making for a much more entertaining and educating performance.”
Costume Returns
People who have not yet returned Fandangle owned costumes should do so as soon as possible.
“Anyone with outstanding costumes, please drop them by to Myra Hise,” Ayers said. “We need to get them washed and stored as quickly as possible.”

The Fandangle office, located in the Albany Visitors Center, has several Fandangle souvenirs available.
