Fandangle rehearsals continue

Practice for the 2019 Fandangle summer shows began Sunday, May 12 and will continue to take place at the Prairie Theater four or more nights a week until the first performance on Friday, June 21.

“With summer rehearsals kicked off this week, I want to encourage everyone to start coming right away,” said artistic director Lorna Ayers. “Singing spots and acting spots are cast during the first rehearsals, so don’t delay.”

The entire cast does not need to be present for every rehearsal, just those in the scenes scheduled for that time slot.

Rehearsal schedules are available at the Fandangle office or can be found online at Fandangle.org by clicking “Cast” at the top right hand side of the page and entering the password “2019.”

Last minute changes are communicated to the cast and crew by group text messages.

On Sunday evenings, the elementary school age Square Dancers practice at 7:00 p.m., junior high youth Yoledae at 7:45 p.m., and high school students Huppi Hi beginning at 8:30 p.m.

“We had a good group of dancers on Sunday,” said Ayers. “They all picked up on the choreography like champions.”

Indians practice at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, while various other groups are set for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.

“The more (cast members) we have, the better the production, so come on out!” Ayers said.

The director requested that everyone desiring to ride a horse in the Fandangle or wanting to be in the Can-Can please let her know ASAP.

“This year’s show is going to be very special for Albany citizens and veteran Fandanglers,” said Ayers. “If you can’t be a part of the show, be a part of the audience. You don’t want to miss this year!”

Ticket Sales

Good seats, including boxes, are still available for all four performances, Friday and Saturday June 21-22 and June 28-29.

Reserved tickets are $15, with discounts available for groups of 20 or more, active military, and veterans.

Box seats are $80 for a box of four, $120 for a box of six, $160 for a box of eight, and are only sold as compete boxes.

“Ticket sales are going very well for both weekends,” said Fandangle marketing director Rebecca Bridges. “We encourage everyone to go ahead and purchase your tickets to ensure you get the seats you enjoy.”

Recent Publicity

The Fandangle Board is putting their publicity efforts to good use on many different fronts including traditional radio, TV, billboard, and print advertising as well as a new and targeted social media, native, and digital campaign that has already reached thousands, according to Bridges.

On Sunday, May 12, the Texas Forts Trail Region tourist information center sent out a Facebook post telling all of their friends that, “On this day in 1938, the first performance of the longest running outdoor play in Texas, the Fandangle, hit the stage.”

This past Monday, May 13, Red Steagall’s Somewhere West of Wall Street on RFD TV featured the Fandangle.

The season #6, episode 19 show will be rerun this Sunday, May 19, at 6:00 a.m. (Central) on RFD TV.
