Fall decor to go up Saturday

Volunteers are needed this Saturday, Oct. 1 to help decorate the town for the fall season.

Anyone wishing to help set up decorations should meet at the Chamber of Commerce office in the Depot at 9:00 a.m., according to Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones.

The Chamber purchased new fall decorations last year and will provide all the supplies necessary to put up the items that include fall wreaths and garland, along with cane cut by the Albany FFA members.

“It would be helpful for volunteeers to bring step ladders,” Jones said. “And we probably will need a few wire cutters and scissors.”

Members of the Albany FCCLA chapter already helped by mounting the round wooden pumpkins on posts throughout the downtown area.

Jones said that anyone is welcome to help with the program, which includes 150 to 200 decorative items in addition to the bundles of dried cane.

“We will decorate the downtown area, but there will be decorations at other locations along Main Street as well,” she said.” “We will need several crews helping so that it doesn’t take so long.”

Jones said that Nov. 19 has tentatively been set as the date to change the fall decorations to Christmas.

Volunteers will remove the cane and replace it with colorful ribbon. The pumpkin circles that are up will be reversed to show a Christmas motif on the back side.
