The Albany Chamber of Commerce directors are continuing with preparations to put up fall street decorations, and they are also taking entries for the inaugural Home of the Hereford Cookoff and Cornhole Tournament.

Decorations will go up on Saturday, Sept. 25, Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said.

“Anybody is welcome to come help,” she said.

Jones said between 150 and 200 decorations will be put on display.

“These will not just be in the downtown area,” she said. “The decorations will be placed along much of Main Street and in some other areas.”

In mid-November, Jones said, the fall decorations will be replaced with holiday decorations.

Cookoff

The Home of the Hereford Cookoff and Cornhole Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 1-2 at Webb Park.

The event is a fundraiser to help pay for new decorations downtown.

“We’ve got lots of good sponsors,” Jones said. “I’ve started having lots of questions about the cookoff. I’m fixing to hit that really hard on getting people signed up.”

The cookoff will feature eight categories. Entry fee is $20 per category. Contestants must preregister.

Entry fee for the cornhole tournament is $25 per person.

“People can give us a call if they want to enter a cornhole team or a cookoff team,” Jones said.

Jones said the Albany Masonic Lodge and Albany Lions Club will offer hamburger meals on Oct. 2 during the event.

“We encourage everyone to come out and have a good time, meet with former classmates because it’s homecoming,” Jones said.
