Faith Fry advances to nationals
By Sam Waller
Shackelford County 4-H member Faith Fry finished second with her horse educational presentation at the State 4-H Roundup last week, qualifying for the national competition to be held in Ohio next month.
The Roundup was held Monday-Thursday, June 5-8 at College Station.
Fry gave her presentation on Thursday, a day after competing in horse judging. The team of Fry, Madailein Beard, Jordan Fikes, and Paisley Clark finished 12th overall in the team standings, with a sixth place in “reasons,” seventh in halter, and 14th in performance.
Individually, Fry finished third overall. She was eighth in halter, seventh in performance, and fourth in “reasons.”
Also on Wednesday, Leddie Leech was recognized during the evening assembly as a recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from the Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship Program.
Summer STEAM
The third session of the Summer STEAM program will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15 (today), at The Feed Store.
“We had good science session last week that Carley Howard led,” Bell said.
Today’s session will include a visit by personnel and animals from the Abilene Zoo.
“This week was originally scheduled to be engineering, but it was the only day the Abilene Zoo could come,” Shackelford County Extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “They’re bringing some small animals, and we’ll try to tie in some engineering, maybe by building different animals with complex Lego sets that have joints.”
