Facilities study reviewed

Albany News

By Melinda L. Lucas

Three representatives with Parkhill, an architectural and engineering company engaged by Albany ISD to perform a facilities study, presented their initial findings in Monday’s meeting of the AISD board of trustees, and although there was no action of any kind, the board members agreed that immediate action would be needed in several areas, and a long range plan would need to be devised. Many of the facilities are nearing 70 years old.

The board will continue discussions next month, including the possibility of a bond election to cover major concerns, when Parkhill presents final findings.

To repair and replace every problem listed on both campuses, the cost was estimated at more than $14 million.

Trustee Resignation

Kelly Head, who was present at the Monday night meeting, submitted his resignation from the board, citing family obligations for his decision.

The resignation was accepted with regrets, and Head was thanked for his 15 years of service to the district.
